‧Information service center
We wish ourselves to be an information center for KSU and the community. To accomplish the goal, the library keeps plenty resources like books, periodicals, e-journals, and databases. Although faculty, staff, and student are our cardinal service members, community and alumni are very welcome to enjoy our services. Publishing new messages and preserving old news help users to be aware of valuable information. To go a step further, we suggest tools and methods that are useful to gather and organize resources for customers.
‧Active marketing
In addition to be an information center, we also popularize activities actively. Librarians no longer wait for users to come to the door passively but step out to look for potential users automatically. Promotions such as information resource trainings allow us to interact with patrons to discover their information requirements.
‧Holistic education
Students educated in technological and vocational education emphasize more technique training than cultural literacy. One feature of the library is that abundant cultural elements enable users to cultivate aesthetic habit. Memorial center displays ancient locks or authentic France engravings and pictorials of the 19th century that guide users to become acquainted with correlative history and development. With omnipresent stimulation, holistic education has become daily lessons which help students to ascent cultural literacy.
‧Ubiquitous service – u-library
U is abbreviated from ubiquitous which stands for ubiquitous services. KSU library and information center is on the cutting edge of trends that offer services like automation, digitalization, remote access, RFID system, institutional repository, hot spot, and mobile communication. All modern facilities lead us to the load on “mobile library”. In order to achieve above management concepts, the library attains these aims through following 2 directions in three years. First, the most important task is to gather and foster talented employees. Second, building a brand new library center crystallizes the thought and makes dreams come true.
‧Educate professional
The library is staffed with 1Doctor and 6 Masters who have specialized expertise in library field. On-job trainings and interscholastic seminars nurture our spiritual life and practical experiences. One librarian just finished her continuing education this year from Department of Library and Information Science in National Taiwan University. Another librarian is working on Master Degree at the moment. What we are proud of is that we run the library like a big family. Family-like feelings let us get along with each other harmoniously.
‧Accomplish ideas – facilities and managements of the brand new library and information center
‧Separate routes are designed to divide quiet study area, offices, and user service area.
‧IP-based large-scale screens on the second floor and 7th floor not only play films, news, and messages, but also broadcast on going activities or seminars live.
‧Reading desks and quiet study area install internet accesses for free Internet browsing. 802.11g standard protocol (54MBps) is utilized to support wireless network in the whole building.
‧Decorating with flowers, sculptures, and paintings embellish environments and atmosphere. We also establish galleries and hold lectures to bring up self-cultivation.
‧RFID MiFare center control system governs entrance, air conditioning, lighting, and monitor.
‧PDA provides music appreciation and tour guide system.
‧Through project managements, the library introduces RFID self check-out machines and the book sorter to upgrade versatile services. Meanwhile, the library extends automation service to make it available on cell phones.
